We are what we eat

Information on Training and Diet:

  • To lose weight a person must reduce their caloric intake or increase the amount of work they perform.
  • To turn protein into muscle, the protein must be combined with carbohydrates and the correct amount of amino acids.
  • If a person builds muscle cells from weight lifting, and then stops lifting, the body will decrease the size of the muscle cells (over time) back to the starting cell size.
  • A person cannot spot reduce fat or weight. If a person performs 200 sit ups per day their waist will not reduce in size.
  • Muscle cannot be converted to fat, and fat cannot be converted to muscle.
  • Muscle is constructed of protein and other amino acids.

Diet:
The greatest influence on your body is diet.  The saying “you are what you eat” is true. If your diet consists of fat, sugar and carbohydrates, you will gain excessive weight.  If you eat excessive protein (which is counted as a calorie) that is not utilized within the body it will be stored as fat. Simply put all food one eats has to do something (energy or fuel) or be stored somewhere on the body.

Calorie Tracking
Counting or tracking calories has always been a difficult task and prone to error because of record keeping and researching the caloric value of food.  Technology has made it easier for us to track our calorie intake permitting us to monitor and change our food intake.

The Food And Exercise Diary calculates, logs, reports, graphs, and analyzes your daily food consumption and exercise to help with your weight loss.   The Food And Exercise Diary produces reports and graphs essential for weight loss troubleshooting--allowing for considerable insight into your weight loss progress to make correct, intelligent, and informed adjustments of your food-intake and exercise to successfully reach your weight loss goals. weight loss software

Good Carbohydrates (high nutrient value):
Carbohydrates provide to the body fuel for energy (glucose).  Whether you lift weights, run or bike your body uses the fuel stored in your muscles (glycogen).  When you can no longer lift or sprint, the glycogen stored in the muscle has been used up.

Quinoa, oatmeal, brown rice, wild rice, whole wheat, etc are all good energy fuels for your muscle.  These foods are metabolized slower than carbohydrates such as sugar or white rice, but are the true fuels our body needs to perform work.

Keep in mind that any excessive carbohydrate taken into the body is eventually stored as fat.
Bad Carbohydrates (no nutrient value):
Avoid food with high sugar content.  Soda or Pop typically has 40 to 50 grams of sugar or high fructose corn syrupy.  Sugar may produce a high or a feeling of increased energy, but it is rapidly stored as fat.

White rice, white pasta, white bread, and foods composed of enriched and bleach flour are almost treated as sugar.  These carbohydrates foods are metabolized very fast (as sugar is metabolized), produce very low nutrient value, and are rapidly stored as fat.
How Carbohydrates are used for muscle fuel:
When carbohydrates are digested and turned into a form of blood sugar knows as glucose.  The liver turns glucose into glycogen which is stored in the muscles and also the liver.  When the muscles are trained for lifting they increase in size providing the source of energy for lifting.

Protein:
Proteins along with amino acids are the main building blocks for muscle and tissue within the body.  Protein can be obtained through animal or fish, or thorough plants such as soybean.

Protein powder or supplements provide a mean of ingesting protein without also consuming excessive fat.  These readily available powders also have the building block for muscle growth know as amino acids.
